Hunter S. Thompson was an American journalist and author best known for pioneering the genre of Gonzo journalism, a style that blends fact and fiction with the writer as a central character. Born in 1937 in Louisville, Kentucky, Thompson gained national fame with his 1971 book Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, a wild, drug-fueled road trip narrative that became a counterculture classic. He was a fierce critic of authority and a champion of individual freedom, often using satire and dark humor to expose the absurdities of politics and society. His work frequently appeared in Rolling Stone, where he covered everything from presidential campaigns to motorcycle gangs. Thompson lived a life as rebellious and chaotic as his writing, becoming a cultural icon known for his eccentric lifestyle and love of excess. He died in 2005 by suicide, leaving behind a legacy of fearless, boundary-pushing journalism.
